37-year-old Nelson Javier Funez Reyes was shot and killed by police during a shootout on September 22, 2024 on Arrowood Charlotte, NC. Nelson shot Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Officer Kenneth Kludy in the leg twice during the shooting.
Officer Kludy and Officer Joshua Heater were working patrol in the same vehicle. The cops pulled over Nelson due to warrants for assault with a deadly weapon.
The officer went down immediately and was bleeding profusely and screaming in pain. Officer Heater shot back and hit Nelson multiple times.

Officer Heater was not shot. Paramedics and police reinforcements were dispatched to the scene. Officer Kludy and Nelson were both transported to the hospital via ambulance after they were shot.
Officer Heater was not injured, but was transferred to the hospital just as a precaution. Charlotte Alerts is on Instagram.
Nelson died at the hospital during emergency care on September 24, 2024. Officer Kludy sustained a significant loss of blood and underwent surgery.

Officer Kludy is now in stable condition and he is expected to survive. Officer Heater was hired on October 26, 2020, and Officer Kludy was hired on February 24, 2020.
Both officers are assigned to the Steele Creek Division. As is standard procedure following an officer involved shooting investigation, both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave.
