A family fight led to a murder just weeks before Father’s Day, a step son shot and killed his step dad in family feud
Gary Tharrington, 34, was shot and killed by his step-son on June 8, 2026 in Durham, NC. Gary worked as a mechanic for years.
Gary’s biological daughter got into a fierce argument with her step brother, they both were teenagers still in high school. Gary tried to intervene and was shot by the step-son.
Gary died on scene. The step-son fled the scene. The girl ran to a neighbor’s house. The male teen suspect was later arrested charged in connection to Gary’s murder.
