Judge Donnie Hoover, 75, died on October 10, 2025 in Charlotte, NC. Judge Hoover was a Democratic Superior Court Judge in Mecklenburg County for years. Judge Hoover lived in a luxury uptown condominium.

Judge Hoover tested positive for COVID-19 in March 2020, also infected was his wife Josephine. The Coronavirus sent Josephine to the emergency room for days. Josephine was throwing up, and had the shits diarrhea.
Judge Hoover and his wife have significant medical histories. They both recovered from the virus. In 2008, Governor Bev Perdue appointed Judge Hoover to be a judge in Judicial District 26 in Mecklenburg County.
And then Governor Roy Cooper appointed Judge Hoover to Superior Court in 2018.
Many attorneys had issues with the way judge Hoover handled cases, saying he was slow to make rulings. The judge took on hundreds of big cases, both criminal and civil. Judge Hoover graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1971.
Old age is the likely cause of death for Judge Hoover. No funeral arrangements have been made yet.
