Dr. Krystal Cascetta, 40, shot and killed her 4-month-old daughter on August 5, 2023 at her $1 million home in Westchester County, New York. Dr. Cascetta was a doctor for Mt. Sinai specializing in Hematology and Oncology.
Dr. Cascetta was married and had just given birth to a daughter earlier this year. While at home with the baby, Dr. Cascetta went into her baby’s room and shot the girl, killing her.
Dr. Cascetta then shot and killed herself. Family was in the home with the doctor. Family members rushed to the room where the gunshots were heard, but the door was locked.
The family kicked the door down and found Dr. Cascetta and her baby girl dead. Dr. Cascetta’s husband was not home during the shooting.
Police confirmed the case as a murder suicide.
Mount Sinai released a statement Saturday night saying,The Mount Sinai community is greatly saddened by the tragic loss of a Mount Sinai Health System doctor and her child. We extend our deepest sympathies to Dr. Cascetta’s family, friends, colleagues, and patients.
