Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department Officer Malcolm Joseph, 34, was arrested on July 17, 2026 accused of pushing a teenager off of a moving bicycle in Charlotte, NC.
At 2 a.m. the teen and his friends were riding bikes in the central areas of Charlotte doing pop wheelies. Officer Joseph saw the teens and tried to detain them on a reckless driving charge.
Officer Joseph allegedly pushed the teen from the bicycle, causing the teen to fall to the ground and sustain minor bodily injuries. Another cop complained and told on Officer Joseph, which prompted an internal affairs review. Police officers get arrested all the time for doing dumb things.
Following a voluntary interview with Officer Joseph, detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest, charging him with simple assault. Officer Joseph was arrested.
Officer Joseph is currently on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal investigation. Officer Joseph was hired on September 3, 2024, and is currently assigned to the Central Division.
