The Chicken King had its permit suspended after bugs were crawling on food and nasty conditions in the restaurant. Who likes dirty greasy fried chicken?
The Chicken King on 1740 West Trade St. Charlotte, NC scored an 79.50 C during a city health department inspection on January 28, 2026. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

An employee failed to wash their hands after handling raw breaded fish. The worker was about to prep ready to eat foods without washing hands.
There was no certified food protection manager on duty during the inspection. Small crawling insects were in the metal container holding boiled eggs stored in flip top. There were several crawling insects on the counter and throughout the Chicken King restaurant.
The inspector observed debris accumulation under the flip top lid. Gaskets on the prep units had debris and residue accumulation; the bottom of the reach in freezer had debris accumulation.
The oven hood system, walls, and outer vents had heavy accumulation of dirt and debris. The bathroom hand sink and toilet were unclean during inspection. A phone was on the prep table while active food prep was being done.
Employees were prepping food without hair restraints. Chicken King restaurants have made the news for bad health food scores many times.
Missing ceiling tiles were seen throughout the facility. The plastic wall covering was coming out of place at the back of the restaurant, which was a repeat issue and got the business permit of the Chicken King immediately suspended.
