BLACK MAN SHOT BY POLICE ON WEST SUGAR CREEK

Marcus Shankle, 34, was arrested on October 23, 2024 after being shot by police on West Sugar Creek Road Charlotte, NC. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

The shooting was on October 3, 2024 in the late evening. Officers were conducting patrols in the area.

Officers saw Marcus allegedly in possession of a gun, Marcus was a convicted felon and not allowed to have a gun.

Cops initiated contact with Marcus in the parking lot of a restaurant on West Sugar Creek. Upon making contact with the suspect, a brief struggle ensued. Officers perceived an imminent deadly threat, and one officer shot the suspect several times. Marcus was allegedly in possession of two firearms; both were recovered on scene.

Marcus was accused of murdering Lemuel Carr in 2023

Marcus was transported by ambulance to the hospital with life threatening injuries. All officers on scene were unharmed. Marcus has an extensive violent criminal history including attempted murder and murder.

Marcus stayed in the hospital for weeks, after he was cared for, he was released and then arrested. The suspect was charged with gun and assault on officer offenses.
