4 law enforcement officers were murdered in a shooting on April 29, 2024 in Charlotte, NC 8 cops total were shot. Terry Hughes, 39, is the accused shooter, who is now dead after being killed by police on scene. Thomas Weeks, 48, was the U.S. Marshal that was killed. Samuel Poloche and William Alden Elliott are the other Marshals killed. Officer Joshua Eyer of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department was killed too. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

The shooting began at 1:30 p.m. on Galway Drive at a residence. Cops and the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force were serving an arrest warrant on Terry. Click here to see video of a cop getting murdered on duty in a parking lot.
Once Terry saw cops he began shooting with an high powered AR-15 rifle because he did not want to go back to prison, as the warrants were possession of firearm by felon.
The shots caught the U.S. Marshals and the police off guard. Thomas, Samuel, and William were shot. They all died.

Officer Eyer was shot in the chest allegedly by the suspect. 4 more officers were shot by the suspect. The shooting left multiple cops on the ground shivering and shaking.
A mass causality hospital bus was sent to treat and transport the shot officers to the hospital.
There was a supposed second shooter at the suspect house, but no identity has been given on them, or criminal charges.

During the shootout Terry came out of the house and was shot dead by cops and task force members. One officer even fell and broke their ankle.
Thomas had been with the U.S. Marshals Service for 13 years. Before that, he had eight years of experience with the United States Customs and Border Protection.
Thomas leaves behind a wife and four children. Officer Eyer leaves behind a wife and a 3-year-old son. Cops get an automatic $100,000 life insurance policy when they are hired, just in case they are killed in the line of duty. There is an option for that amount to be raised if the cop pays a higher premium.
