On March 22, 2023 the bodies of 27-year-old Meshay Melendez and her daughter 7-year-old Layla Stewart were found dead in Washougal, Washington. This case is being investigated as a double murder.
Meshay and Layla were last seen on the morning of March 12, 2023. In fact, a car that belonged to Meshay was found near the Vancouver Mall.
The dead bodies were discovered after a 911 caller reported that “two life sized mannequins” were seen off the road and down an embankment in a wooded area with thick brush.
The cause of death is not known but the medical examiner is conducting an autopsy.
On March 19th, police arrested Meshay’s ex-boyfriend Kirkland Warren, a person of interest in the disappearance. He is facing charges of tampering with a witness, violation of domestic violence orders, and possession of a firearm.
In December 2022 Kirkland was accused of shooting at Meshay at her apartment.
