On April 5, 2023 a high speed chase erupted in west Charlotte, NC on Freedom Drive and Tuckaseegee Road. Mekayla Rodgers, 19, and Lonnie McConico, 18, were arrested, charged in the high speed pursuit.
A vehicle reported stolen was identified by a license plate reader via the police department’s Real Time Crime Center, the vehicle was driving on North Graham St on April 5th. The car had been stolen in a carjacking earlier in the month.
Police tried to pull the car over, but it didn’t stop and a pursuit began.
The stolen car sped into west Charlotte on Freedom and Tuckaseegee Road. The stolen vehicle ran off the road in the area of Wesley Green Way and hit a ditch.
The vehicle crashed. The alleged occupants in the vehicle were Mekayla and Lonnie. The alleged occupants ran from the car, they were later found and arrested.
Mekayla and Lonnie were charged with eluding arrest, resisting a public officer, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
