On December 30, 2024 Zikera Wardlow, 16, and DeAnthony Morgan, 20, were shot to death while sitting in a Dodge Charger car in Hillsborough, NC. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Zikera was a sophomore on the girl’s basketball team at Discovery Charter School in Durham. Deanthony had picked up Zikera from her home on December 29, 2024 in a Dodge Charger to get food at a restaurant around 9 p.m.
But while Deanthony and Zikera were parked on a side road, a suspect vehicle pulled up beside them and fired multiple shots. Shattered glass was visible in the back passenger window.
On December 30th around 6 a.m. a 911 caller called in to report seeing the Dodge Charger riddled with bullets with the doors open.
Police responded to the scene and found Deanthony and Zikera dead. No suspect descriptions are available.
The Orange County schools system released a statement on Zikera’s death:
“We are terribly saddened by news of the tragic death of our former student, Zikera Wardlow, who previously attended Cedar Ridge High School as a freshman. Our hearts go out to her family and friends and all who knew her. Counselors and support services will be available for students and staff.”
