Akingbiwaju Opadele, 34, is the paramedic that was convicted in September 2026 of having sexual relations with a teen girl inside an ambulance in Charlotte, NC.
On January 17, 2023, Morgan the teenage female victim had a seizure at school and was transported to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital by ambulance.
Opadele was the paramedic entrusted with the treatment of the female teen victim during transport in the ambulance. During the ride, Opadele sexually assaulted Morgan while she was undergoing the medical emergency. Prosecutors say Opadele put his hand inside of Morgan’s pants and made other sexual contact.
Upon arrival at the hospital, the victim immediately reported to Atrium medical staff about the sex assault and asked for the defendant to leave her hospital room. Morgan’s panties were DNA tested and submitted into evidence. Also a buccal swab was conducted on Opadele’s mouth.
Opadele was arrested in March 2023 charged with child sex offenses. Witnesses from Atrium Health Hospital participated in the trial by giving testimony that supported and corroborated the victim.
Forensic evidence in the form of DNA testing additionally supported the victim, Morgan bravely testified to the assault that she experienced at the hands of Opadele.
At the 2026 trial Opadele was convicted of second degree forcible sex offense and sexual activity by a custodian. The jury found him guilty as charged. Opadele was given 70-144 months in prison. Opadele must also register as a sex offender for 30 years.
