A shooting occurred at Lakewood Church where Joel Osteen is the pastor, the church is a mega church of over 40,000 members in Houston, Texas. The shooting was on February 11, 2024. Genesse Moreno, 36, is the shooter, she was killed by cops, her 7-year-old son was shot in the head.
Lakewood was about to begin a Spanish speaking church service in the afternoon. Genesse entered the mega church with her son and tried to enter the sanctuary, but the entrance doors were locked at that section.
Genesse began firing an AR-style rifle at random church goers in the hallway area. Click here to see video of another church shooting at West Freeway Church of Christ.
People began to run. Full-time security at the church dressed in black suits along with uniformed police were already on scene for general security.
As the shots were heard, people began running. Genesse shot one church member in the hip. Cops and security approached the suspect and fired multiple shots, Genesse returned fire at the guards.

Genesse’s son was shot in the head, he was wearing red pants. Genesse can be heard saying that she has a bomb. Genesse also said, “I just need help!! You killed my son!!”
Genesse was eventually shot by either a cop or security guard, she died on the scene. Genesse’s son was taken to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition.
The church was put on lock-down for hours. The Spanish speaking church service was cancelled for the day.
It is still unknown why Genesse decided to shoot inside the church.
