This is the 4th student at a black college in the area to die this month
North Carolina Central University student London Powers, 21, was killed on August 11, 2025 in a double homicide at Camden Pointe Apartments on East Knox St. Durham, NC. The other victim killed was 23-year-old Damien Tinsley. London was a junior majoring in social work. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
London Powers
London was a member of the University Honors program with aspirations to earn her Master of Social Work degree. Shots were fired at 3 p.m. on August 11th at the apartments. Police responded to the scene.
Damien was pronounced dead at the scene. London was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. She later died. London was from Washington, D.C.
Even a student basketball player at NCCU died.

Some died from drugs, some were murdered, some died from other causes.
Most recently are 3 Winston Salem State University students that died on the same day.
