70-year-old Sylvia Dollard was arrested on August 29, 2024 accused of DWI while driving a school bus with Oakdale Elementary students aboard in Charlotte, NC.
Sylvia is employed as a bus driver with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. Sylvia was driving a school bus on Lightspun Lane. 21 students were on the bus when the bus began to swerve and drive erratically down the street.
A shootout occurred in front of a school bus on West Blvd.
Sylvia then stopped the bus. A witness called 911.
Some students were injured. Sylvia was ordered off the bus by police and arrested, charged with driving while impaired.

Some students were taken home by another bus that was dispatched to the scene. Other kids’ parents came to the crime scene to pick up their children.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools says:
“Unfortunately, we had a transportation incident yesterday with one of our buses at Oakdale Elementary. While we cannot go into specifics because of restrictions around personnel matters, we do and will hold staff to high standards.”
The school district suspended Sylvia after her arrest.
