SUBWAY RESTAURANT HAD ROACHES DURING INSPECTION AND MICROBIAL GROWTH ON FOOD, PERMIT GETS SUSPENDED

Date:

The Subway restaurant located at 6133 South Blvd. Charlotte, NC scored an 83 B on a food health inspection on October 1, 2024.

There was no manager on duty during the inspection. Subway employees had limited knowledge on food safety and requirements of the food code.

There was also no certified food protection manager present. A large buildup of syrup was on the drink machine nozzles. Insects have been found in food at several Charlotte restaurants.

The inspector observed a large amount of microbial growth inside of the ice machine. A huge quantity of grease and food debris were on the salt shaker lids.

Microbial growth was on top of the egg bites in the walk-in cooler and the egg bites were expired.

An under counter cooler was holding foods at 70 degrees. The walk-in cooler was holding foods at 43-49 degrees. All of the food items were voluntarily discarded because foods must be cold held at 41 degrees or below.

The inspector then suspended the permit for Subway to do business due to the lack of cold holding capacity.

A large presence of flies were around the drink machine and the 3-comp sink. There was also a live cockroach.

Boxes of lettuce were on the floor. Subway employees had no hair restraints.
