VIOLENT MAN SHOOTS 7-ELEVEN STORE EMPLOYEE IN THE CHEST

Date:

James Murray, 24, tried to rob a 7-Eleven convenience store in Charlotte, NC. In doing so, James shot one of the employees in the chest. On May 7, 2021 James was sentenced to 137 months in prison and three years of supervised release.

The robbery attempt was on September 9, 2019 at 3:04 in the morning at the 7-Eleven located at 5343 Monroe Road. While armed with a handgun James entered the store and jumped over the counter.

James ran into the back office, where he encountered a store employee. James told the store employee “this is a robbery” and shot the employee in the chest.

James then ran out of the back office while the employee pursued. James shot at the 7-Eleven employee again and fled the scene without taking any of the store’s cash. The store employee reported the robbery to 911 and James was arrested in the vicinity shortly thereafter.

And then on July 2, 2020, James pleaded guilty to attempted Hobbs Act robbery, which is the attempted robbery of a business engaged in interstate commerce.
