Leevon Smith was shot and killed by a female undercover police officer in Chicago, Illinois. The encounter happened on January 18, 2023.
The shooting was on the sidewalk just outside of an apartment building. There was a fight at the apartment moments before the shooting. The female officer was on scene in plain clothes and sweat pants on an undercover assignment.
Leevon is seen grabbing the undercover and attempting to rob her, the cop even was hit in the face during the struggle, giving her an laceration above her right eye.
The cop yells,
“I’ll kill you, I will kill you”
Leevon replies, “you gonna have to kill me then.” That is when the undercover officer pulls out a gun and shoots Leevon 3 times.

Leevon was shot in the abdomen twice and once in his left hand. Leevon was taken to the hospital, and he was pronounced dead on January 20, 2023.
A tactical response report states that Leevon posed an “imminent threat of battery” without a weapon and physically attacked the officer. The report also claims that the female officer was ambushed with “no warning” and fired a total of three shots.
The officer joined the Chicago Police Department in June 2022.
