White Mountain Apache Police Officer Melissa Ward was caught stealing from a Walmart self check out in Show Low, Arizona. Melissa is a sergeant and detective with the police department. Video shows Detective Ward stealing and trying to leave the store. She has stole from Walmart on several occasions and will even make false returns to get cash or gift certificates for items she never purchased in the first place.
Detective Ward was involved in seven separate incidents involving fraudulent returns and stealing at Walmart from August 2025 to October 2025. Police officers get arrested a lot for doing stupid things, cops are expected to follow the law, but they do not, they are worse than real criminals.
Detective Ward first came onto Walmart’s theft radar when she put a tote box in her shopping cart and filled the tote with personal items totaling $1,200. Detective Ward would then leave Walmart without paying for the items, passing all points of sell. Detective Ward would then return to the Walmart to return some of the stolen items to get cash or a Walmart gift card.
Detective Ward did this many times, but in October 2025 Walmart was on to her. On the 7th occasion of Detective Ward’s theft excursion, she showed up to the Walmart in her cop car and in full uniform.
Detective Ward had the same motive, she loaded up a tote with items and went to self checkout. Detective Ward only scanned and paid for the tote, while leaving the other items concealed in the tote without paying for the items.
Detective Ward then grabbed Walmart shopping bags to make it look like she paid for the items in the tote. Walmart asset protection stopped Detective Ward at the door and told her to pay for the items.
Detective Ward went to the customer service desk to make it look like she was paying for the items or getting assistance, but she turned around after a few seconds and tried to leave Walmart again.
Police were called and Detective Ward was arrested charged with organized retail theft and shoplifting & fraudulent schemes. Cops on scene questioned Detective Ward, and she made excuses saying she was looking for her car keys and she forgot to pay for the items in the tote.
