Newly released video shows the moments 33-year-old Ali Naji entered the Dearborn police station holding a firearm and pointing the gun at cops. The deadly encounter happened in Dearborn, Michigan on Dec. 18, 2022. Ali died as a result of the shooting.
Ali is seen on above video entering the police precinct lobby with a gun. Ali pointed the gun at officers behind a desk. Ali’s gun malfunctioned, and during that time the police officer behind the desk shot Ali 17 times in 4 seconds.
Even after Ali was on the ground and not a threat anymore, the cop still continued shooting Ali. The suspect died at the scene while paramedics were present.
Ali’s gun was recovered and the safety was off with one round in the chamber. Ali’s family filed a $10 million lawsuit against the Dearborn Police Department, claiming excessive force and wrongful death.The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office determined that no charges will be filed against the officer, saying Ali posed an immediate threat.
Prosecutor Kym Worthy says:
“We may never know why Mr. Naji walked into the Dearborn Police Department with a loaded weapon attempting to fire it at a police officer. My office will not be issuing charges in this case. Although extremely tragic, this is a clear case where the officer acted in lawful self-defense and in the defense of others.”
