One person was killed on April 14, 2023 after being struck by an Amtrak train in Charlotte, NC.
The crash was at 6:52 a.m. on Old Concord and Suther roads. The victim was on the train tracks via foot when the Amtrak train hit the pedestrian and ran them over.
The train tried to stop, but was unable to do so prior to the deadly collision. The victim died at the scene.
Amtrak released this statement concerning the collision:
“Today, Amtrak train #80 was traveling from Charlotte to New York, at approximately 6:52 a.m., when it came into contact with a person trespassing on the track. There have been no reported injuries to the 87 passengers or crew onboard. Amtrak is working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department to investigate the incident.”
