On February 9, 2023 a victim was killed after being hit by an Amtrak train in Charlotte, NC around 2 p.m. The collision was on Eastway Drive, between North Tryon Street and The Plaza.

The victim was walking on the railroad tracks, the Amtrak train was quickly approaching. The Amtrak train tried to put on brakes, but the train still hit the victim. The victim died on the scene.
We don’t know if this was a suicide attempt by the victim. We also don’t know why the victim did not get out of the way.
Passengers were aboard the train, but none of them were hurt. Amtrak released this statement concerning the deadly crash:
“Today, Amtrak train 75 was traveling at approx. 1:15 p.m. when an individual who was trespassing on the track came into contact with the train. There have been no reported injuries to the 80 passengers or crew onboard. Amtrak is working with local law enforcement to investigate the incident.”
