After nearly 40 years, Cold Case Homicide detectives have arrested James Pratt, 60. James is charged with the 1984 homicide of 27-year-old Sarah Mobley Hall and her 10-year-old son, Derrick Mobley that happened on Ventura Way Charlotte, NC.
Sarah and Derrick were both strangled to death and beaten on March 14, 1984 at apartments on Ventura Way.
Sarah and Derrick were found deceased in the apartments. For years, no arrests were made.
But as a result of years of extensive forensic testing and evidence examination, the police Crime Lab and Cold Case Unit identified James as a suspect.
On February 1, 2023 James was arrested at a hotel in York County, South Carolina. James was later extradited back to Mecklenburg County and is currently in the Mecklenburg County Jail.
