Video shows Decarlos Brown, 34, murdered Iryna Zarutska, 23, on a Lynx Blue Line train in Charlotte, NC on August 22, 2025. Iryna had just came to the United States from Ukraine fleeing the war with Russia. Iryna worked at a pizzeria. Charlotte Alerts submitted jail recordings of Decarlos confessing to the murder, which can be heard in the video below.
Iryna was in her full work uniform, she had just got off of work from a pizza restaurant. Iryna sits down in a seat in front of Decarlos. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Decarlos is seen contemplating and then pulling out a knife and violently stabbing Iryna in the neck and head.
Iryna had instant shock and looks at Decarlos as he is standing over her in a gruesome evil fashion. Iryna then falls to the ground and bleeds to death.
Decarlos walks off on the other side of the train. Other people on the train run to help Iryna, as puddles of blood fill the train. There has been so much violence surrounding public transportation in Charlotte, many shootings, stabbings, murders, and even fentanyl drug overdoses.
One of the men on the train even takes off his shirt to stop the bleeding on Iryna’s neck. Sadly Iryna died on the train. Decarlos is accused of stabbing other people once he got off the train, but those victims survived.
911 was called and Decarlos was arrested at the next stop. The Lynx Blue Line train was evacuated. Decarlos was charged with murder.
In a recorded jail call with his sister following his homicide arrest, Decarlos is heard saying that material in his body made him kill Iryna.
Decarlos said,
“They have to get it removed because it’s making me a murderer, I don’t even know the lady. I never said one word to the lady; that’s scary, isn’t it? Why would I stab someone for no reason?
Decarlos has been to prison before for various charges. Decarlos has mental health problems, including schizophrenia.
