Newly released 2023 video shows the moments Shaheed Covington, 19, was shot at on Onyx Street Charlotte, NC. The shooting was on September 15, 2022 shortly after 5 p.m., officers were called out for a license plate reader hit for a stolen vehicle.
Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Shaheed was in the stolen vehicle with 3 other minors. Shaheed was the driver of the vehicle and he fled the vehicle armed with a firearm in hand when cops began the traffic stop. The other vehicle occupants were held at gunpoint.

Shaheed ran behind a house and briefly faced cops head to head. Multiple officers perceived an imminent threat and fired several unnecessary gun shots at Shaheed with their service weapons.
Thankfully Shaheed was not struck. Sadly, no officers were shot or injured. The suspect surrendered to officers and four subjects total were taken into custody. Officers recovered multiple firearms from the scene.
Shaheed was arrested and charged with possession of stolen vehicle.
