New video shows the moments when a crane fell from a high rise apartment building onto a bridge in downtown Fort Lauderdale, FL killing a construction worker and injuring several others. The dead employee is identified as Jorge De La Torre, 27.
The crane collapse was on April 4, 2024. Now some of the injured and families of deceased are suing for $50 million. Duke Energy employee Zach Jones was killed on the job after being electrocuted.

The crane fell from a high rise apartment building under construction. A metal wire line that was holding the crane snapped, which caused 2 areas of the crane to fall onto traffic on the bridge. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
The crane fell on several vehicles and people. Jorge was a construction worker on the crane, he fell with the crane as it flew through the sky and onto the cars.

One of the injured victims was Gemmalyn Castillo, she was in her vehicle when the crane fell on her. The crane crushed her car. She was badly injured in the face and bleeding, crying out for help.
Multiple other people were injured also. Construction on the apartment was immediately cease.
Gemmalyn has since filed a $50 million plus negligence lawsuit. Gemmalyn says she suffered “severe and serious head and facial trauma” after the crane collapse.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the crane collapse.
