A $20 million lawsuit has been filed after a black man was pepper sprayed and punched in the face at court in Northampton County, North Carolina. New video shows truck driver Don Long arrive at court and get assaulted by Northampton County Sheriff’s Deputy Gregory Colson.
The video was released in June 2026 but the encounter was in January 2026. Don had a court date and arrived at court. When Don tried entering the court room, he was stopped by Deputy Colson and not allowed in.
Don told the deputy that he had to be present in court or else a warrant would be issued for his arrest as a court no show. Don tries entering the court room again and Deputy Colson pushes him away and then uses OC pepper spray on Don.
Don is sprayed in the face with the OC spray and walks away. Deputy Colson then stupidly punches Don in the face from the back. Don then fought back and began swinging throwing punches and hitting Deputy Colson in the face.

Deputy Colson then runs away in pain like a little bitch, Don punches Deputy Colson in the face again, all while Don can barely see from the OC spray. Other deputies come and put handcuffs on Don, placing him in a holding cell at the court.
Don is in the holding cell visibly hurting from the OC spray with no medical assistance or help. Don had to put his feet through his arms to get his handcuffs to the front of him in the cell in order to put water on his face from the holding cell sink.
It was a whole 12 minutes before EMS arrived to give aid to Don. Don was never charged with a crime from this altercation.
Deputy Colson was suspended without pay after his supervisors and the sheriff saw the video. Deputy Colson was then fired. Don now has permanent eye damage from the physical assault and the OC spray, and he will have complications on having a future as a truck driver.
Hence, Don filed a $20 million lawsuit against the Northampton County Sheriff’s Department.
