A Uber driver was racially profiled and suspected of being an illegal immigrant just for giving a ride to a latina woman in a hispanic area of Charlotte
On November 17, 2025 a female Uber driver was harassed and boxed in by Border Patrol in a parking lot shopping center at the intersection of Central Ave and Eastway Dr. Charlotte, NC.

The female Uber driver was giving a latina woman a ride. Once the Uber driver got to the shopping center destination, the latina female passenger got out of the car and went in a store.

Border Patrol saw the latina woman exit the vehicle and automatically assumed the Uber driver was a latino. The Uber driver was about to pull off, but over zealous racist Border Patrol agents boxed the Uber driver in with unmarked vans and SUVS, they approached the Uber vehicle with guns in hand, not letting her out.
The Uber driver is an American citizen and was born in the United States. Once the Uber driver spoke fluent English to Border Patrol, they recognized that she was not latina and they let her go.
These racist and racial profiling episodes have been happening all across Charlotte since Border Patrol arrived in the city on November 15th. This is Governor Josh Stein’s chance to do something to stop Border Patrol and the Trump administration from these racist traffic stops and detainments purely based off of people being latino. It is racist, violates the civil rights act, and is pure discrimination.
