Prosecutors are irate after losing a homicide case, the jury found a man not guilty
On May 6, 2025 Terrell Howard, 32, was found not guilty of the murder of 43-year-old
Devonne Smith. The jury’s not guilty verdict stunned and angered prosecutors because they thought they had a slam dunk case of unreasonable doubt.

Devonne was murdered in Charlotte, NC in January 2020. The shooting was inside of a residence on Feldbank Drive. Weeks later Terrell was arrested charged with murder.
The murder trial began on April 28, 2025. A superior court judge conducted the trial. After evidence and deliberations, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty.
