Remember the movie ‘Soul Plane’? Spirit is the most ghetto unprofessional airline in the USA, there are always fights on their planes and airport terminals. Almost like a Section 8 project housing in the air. Now they closed abruptly leaving passengers stuck at airport
Spirit Airlines shutdown its business without notice on May 2, 2026. The business closing shut down flights and flight plans immediately. Spirit and Frontier airlines both offer cheap flights, and they both have a rowdy audience that often get in fights on planes, with customer service at the terminal, and that cause disruptions on planes due to arguments. Spirit and Frontier are both deemed ghetto airlines.

Multiple passengers at airports across the United States were stuck and stranded at the airport due to their Spirit Airline flights being cancelled due to the company shutdown, including passengers that were on layovers at the airport. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Flights in the air were instructed to fly to the destination airport and shut down. Thousands of scheduled flights were affected by Spirit going out of business on Saturday May 2nd alone. Spirit Airlines had 17,000 employees. The employees are now without jobs.
Spirit Airlines was troubled for years. The military conflict in Iran led to their most recent financial strains with gas prices soaring since The Strait of Hormuz closed. Jet fuel prices are very expensive.
Spirit filed for bankruptcy twice within the last year and were $500 million in debt. Spirit Airlines along with CEO Dave Davis released a statement saying:
To our guests all flights have been cancelled, and customer service is no longer available. Sustaining the business required hundreds of millions of additional dollars of liquidity that Spirit simply does not have and could not procure.”
JetBlue Airlines tried to buy Spirit in 2022. But a federal judge struck down that deal due to anti trust laws. Had the deal gone though, Jet Blue would of been the 5th largest airline in the world.
Spirit is a terrible company with many customers giving horror stories on flying with the airline. Onboard Spirit flights are many fights and physical altercations between passengers. There are also fights at their terminals. Many people avoid flying on Spirit Airlines due to the ghetto nature of their passengers and customer service agents, which probably led to poor sales.

Spirit also did not offer direct non stop flights across the nation, as Spirit had many hours long layovers for cross country trips. The prices at Spirit Airlines were cheap, but the customer experience was terrible.
Lets see if Frontier Airlines is next in line to go out of business.
