DSS tried to take her kids, they got a knife to neck. Remember ‘Baby D’ from the Friday movie?
Shaniya Moore, 20, was arrested on April 15, 2025 in Charlotte, NC accused of putting a knife to the neck of a Mecklenburg County DSS employee over a child custody dispute. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
The encounter was on April 3, 2025. Two DSS workers had a court order to take custody of the children of Shaniya Moore.
The DSS employees picked one of the children up from daycare, they then went to the home of Shaniya in west Charlotte to pick up the second child.
The DSS employees arrived at the home and waited for police, but Shaniya spotted them and confronted them. Shaniya was screaming and yelling. The suspect is accused of pulling a black pocket knife out of her purse.
With a long black blade Shaniya is accused of charging at the DSS workers. Court documents say Shaniya put the knife up to the female DSS employee’s face and neck.
Shaniya was yelling for them to give her child back while she allegedly held the knife up to the victim’s neck. Shaniya then reached into the car and yanked her kid out of the car seat.
The suspect put the kid in the car and left. Several days later Shaniya was arrested charged with assault on a government official.
