MMA FIGHTER CHARGED IN SHOOTING DEATH OF TEENAGER

On March 4, 2023 Kendal Morris, 32, was arrested charged in the shooting death of Steven Gomez Mendoza, 15. The victim was shot and killed on February 12, 2023 on Super Bowl Sunday in Charlotte, NC.

Steven was at a relatives home on Coriander Court. Steven was playing video games with other friends and family. Someone in the room was playing with a gun and the gun accidentally shot Steven.

The victim died on the scene. Steven attended Independence High School where he was a freshman.

Kendal is a local MMA fighter in Charlotte, he competes in tournaments and various matches.

Kendal was arrested in Key West, Florida on March 4, 2023. Kendal is charged with involuntarily manslaughter. Kendal will be extradited back to Mecklenburg County in the coming weeks.
