On July 29, 2024 Khalil Boler, 28, pled guilty to trying to rape a woman at McAlpine Creek Greenway in Charlotte, NC. Rape incidents happen all the time in the Charlotte area.

On September 7, 2022, Khalil attacked a female victim and attempted to rape her and take her cellphone as she was walking along the McAlpine Creek Greenway in Charlotte.
The female victim fought Khalil off and she sustained minor injuries. The woman ran away and called police. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Khalil got away and was not caught until nearly a year later.
But sexual bodily fluids from the suspect was on the woman, so a DNA analysis was conducted on the female victim which included a familial DNA search administered with assistance from the North Carolina State Crime Laboratory.

The suspect was first identified as a person of interest following his arrest for two separate incidents that occurred at the Target store located at 8120 University City Boulevard in July 2023 and September 2023.
Khalil was arrested for the Target sexual assault incidents in September of 2023. He was charged with sexual battery and indecent exposure in the Target store cases.
Results from the September 2022 McAlpine Creek DNA analysis identified Khalil as a potential suspect.

Detectives learned that Khalil had pending charges from the incidents at Target, and that he matched the physical description of the suspect provided by the victim in the McAlpine Creek Greenway attack.
That led detectives to obtain a DNA sample from Khalil that confirmed his identity as the McAlpine Creek Greenway rapist.
Khalil was arrested in September 2023 for the rape attempt from the McAlpine Creek Greenway incident.
A his 2024 trial Khalil pled guilty to attempted second degree rape, sexual battery, and indecent exposure.
A judge sentenced Khalil to 48-118 months in prison. Upon his release from prison, Khalil must serve a period of 24 months of supervised probation. He must also register as a sex offender for 30 years.
