MAN KILLED IN UPTOWN CHARLOTTE HIT AND RUN CRASH

Sidney Cain, 44, was arrested on April 5, 2025 accused of killing Michael Janik, 64, in a hit and run crash in the uptown area of Charlotte, NC on W. 4th St.

On Saturday, April 5, 2025 at 9 p.m. Michael was attempting to cross the 700 block of W. 4th Street outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by a silver 2017 Chevrolet Cruze that fled the scene after the collision. Sidney was the alleged driver of the Chevy.

A woman was killed in a hit and run crash in Charlotte

Michael was found by emergency crews unresponsive laying on the shoulder of the roadway with life-threatening injuries. 

The victim was taken to Atrium Health Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. With the assistance of the Real Time Crime Center, officers canvassed the area and located the Chevrolet Cruze with damage to the front of the vehicle, that was consistent with striking a pedestrian.

Officers located Sidney and placed her under arrest for felony death by vehicle and felony hit and run.
