MAN ARRESTED AFTER SHOOTOUT WITH BUS DRIVER ON CATS CITY BUS

Omarri Tobias, 22, was arrested on May 22, 2023 in Charlotte, NC after getting into a shootout with a bus driver on a city bus.

Omarri was a passenger on a Charlotte Area Transportation System (CATS) bus on May 18, 2023 on Outlets Boulevard, the bus driver and Omarri got into an argument around 11 a.m.

The passenger then allegedly pulled out a gun, and the bus driver also pulled out a gun. The bus driver and the passenger then shot at each other.

Officers responded to the double shooting on the CATS bus. Officers located two gunshot wound victims, the driver, and the passenger on the bus. The driver had non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital. The passenger had life-threatening injuries and was also transported to the hospital.

According to CATS it’s against policy for a CATS employee to have a weapon on CATS property or while performing their job.

Omarri was arrested after days in the hospital on May 22nd and he is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries, communicating threats, and carrying a concealed firearm.

The bus driver is still in the hospital and is not expected to be arrested.
