Inmate dies in cell. Far too many inmates have died under the racist despicable leadership of Sheriff Garry Mcfadden
On December 26, 2025 an inmate identified as 42-year-old Jason Hicks died at the Mecklenburg County Jail on East 4th Street Charlotte, NC. Jason had only been in the jail for one week. There have been a flurry of in custody jail deaths under Sheriff Garry Mcfadden’s poor racist leadership.
On December 26, 2025, at approximately 4:37 a.m., a medical emergency was called by a detention officer in the jail housing unit where Jason was assigned.
Jason was evaluated by jail medical staff, it was determined that Jason required further medical care.
He was taken to Atrium Health Main Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 8:27 a.m. Jail deaths happen all the time at the Mecklenburg County Jail, all under the abhorrently poor leadership of Sheriff Garry Mcfadden.
It is not known at the time what caused Jason’s death.
