A man was killed in head on collision, Pawpaw Carl loved playing his Playstation console
On Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025 Carl Canipe, 59, died in a head on vehicular wreck in Charlotte, NC on Reames Rd. Jeffery Wilkes, 28, was arrested accused of causing the fatal crash. Carl was a grandfather and a diesel mechanic.
Carl was driving a Toyota Tacoma truck at 6:37 a.m., when a Ford F-250 truck being driven by Jeffery crossed the center line and crashed head on into Carl.
Upon arrival, officers located the trucks with heavy front end damage. Medics pronounced Carl deceased on scene.
Jeffery remained on scene and cooperated with the officers. The preliminary investigation indicates that Wilkes failed to maintain the lane of travel heading into a sharp curve and then struck the Toyota that was traveling the opposite direction.
Impairment is not suspected to be a contributing factor. However, speed is a contributing factor in this collision.
Wilkes is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Jail.
