GRADUATION CANCELLED AT ALL UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA SYSTEM SCHOOLS

Date:

All of the UNC system universities have cancelled their graduations due to the Coronavirus. Most of the graduations were scheduled for May 2020.

The brutal nature of the Coronavirus and current federal health guidance led to the graduation cancellations.

Interim UNC System president Bill Roper made the announcement during a special meeting with the UNC Board of Governors. Bill said he knows the cancellation will disappoint students and their families, but the health and safety of students, staff and faculty are the top priority.

Bill says:

“We believe that spring graduation ceremonies will be disrupted, and it’s time to make alternative plans. We’re in the midst of a very serious health crisis. It’s going to get worse before it gets better. I know and understand that this will disappoint our students and their families who have worked so hard toward this goal for so many years.”

The Coronavirus has led to many unusual decisions.
