FATHER CHARGED WITH MURDERING HIS OWN BABY, JUST 8 MONTHS OLD

A baby was killed in Charlotte, the dad was arrested accused of murder

Nieves Alexander Acosta-Maldonado, 27, was arrested on May 14, 2026 accused of murdering his baby Ethan Mato Acosta-Palos who was just 8 months old in Charlotte, NC at a residence on Kirt Court.

On May 3, 2026 the baby was crying in Nieves’s care. Nieves is accused of getting mad at the crying and then throwing the baby in the baby bed. The baby’s head was hit as a result and caused traumatic injury.

911 was called when the baby became unresponsive. The child was taken to Levine Children’s Hospital with serious injuries that were consistent with child abuse. Doctors say the baby’s injuries were caused by being shaken or being thrown on the ground, hitting the head.

On May 6, 2026 baby Ethan died from the injuries. Detectives learned the originating incident occurred on North Sharon Amity Road.

On May 13, 2026 as a result of the continued investigation, detectives identified the victim’s father Nieves as a suspect in connection to this case. Nieves was arrested charged with murder and felony child abuse.
