Khalil Alford, 19, was murdered at campus apartments for the University of North Carolina Pembroke on February 7, 2024 in Pembroke, NC. Kendell Brown, 22, is accused in the shooting of Khalil.
The shooting occurred just before 5:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the University Courtyard Apartments. College basketball player Paul Tate, 21, was murdered on June 14, 2023 in Charlotte, NC.
Khalil was shot and died on scene. The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) took over the case.
In the course of the SBI investigation and after consultation with the District Attorney, SBI agents arrested Kendell on February 14, 2024.
Kendell has been charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and discharging a firearm on educational property. Click here to see video of a shootout between basketball players at The University of New Mexico and New Mexico State University.
After going before a magistrate, the suspect was issued a $125,000 secured bond. Kendell and Khalil were not students at UNCP.
Although Khalil was a former student at UNCP.
