On July 1, 2024 Officer Brent Simpson, 47, committed suicide by shooting himself in the head on Steele Creek Rd. Charlotte, NC. Officer Simpson was a canine officer with the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Officer Simpson was on duty and in uniform when he decided to shoot himself in the head in front of his police co-workers at 12:30 in the afternoon. 8 cops were shot and 4 cops were killed in a Charlotte shootout in April 2024.
Other police on scene immediately tried to revive Officer Simpson and radioed in for support.
Cops loaded Officer Simpson into the back seat of a police car and rushed him to the hospital with lights and sirens on. Officer Simpson’s blood stained the police car seats and exterior paint.
Officer Simpson was taken into emergency surgery at the hospital, but his injuries were too severe and he died.
Officer Simpson was a graduate of the 148th police recruit class and served as an cop since 2006.
Prior to joining the police force, Officer Simpson served in the United States Navy as an operation specialist with the military police for 4 years.
It is not known if Officer Simpson was the subject of any disciplinary or misconduct investigations.
