Li Y was driving with his girlfriend in Charlotte at 3 p.m. Joshua was flagging down random cars to carjack them.
Unknowingly Li Y was about to be street hustled, carjacked, and murdered. Li Y pulled over thinking that Joshua needed some sort of help.
Instead, Joshua shot Li Y in the head 3 times in front of his girlfriend. The suspect then pulled Li Y out of the car and kicked his girlfriend out and then drove off.
Astonishingly enough Joshua went years without being arrested for the crime. In 2023 Joshua robbed a Jimmy Johns restaurant. Cops saw similar evidence in the case and moved in to arrest Joshua for the 2020 murder of Li Y and the Jimmy Johns robbery. Joshua was arrested in September 2023.
At trial in October 2025 Joshua pled guilty to second degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to 13-17 years in prison.
Joshua said he was abused and sexually assaulted as a kid which led him to a dark path of crime. He has to be careful in prison so the big boys don’t sexually assault him.
