On January 18, 2024 Melvin Barahona Zapata was arrested accused of killing 36-year-old Sheridan Eugene Channing Brown in a hit and run crash that occurred on Christmas Day 2023 in Charlotte, NC.
Officers responded to the vehicle collision involving the pedestrian.
An ambulance took Sheridan to Novant Health Main Hospital with life threatening injuries.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Sheridan was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Melvin was found in Mississippi on December 29, 2023 by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department.
On January 18, 2024 Melvin was extradited to Charlotte, NC and arrested on a felony hit-and-run warrant.
