Khaliyal Burney, 23, was arrested on March 31, 2026 accused of killing Nyomi Summers, 8, during a head on crash on Monmouth Drive Charlotte, NC. Khaliyal’s charges were upgraded to misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. Car crashes are notorious in Charlotte.
The girl was killed on March 28, 2026, during a crash. Nyomi was riding a bike in the street. Khaliyal is accused of driving fast and crashing into Nyomi as she entered the street on her bike.
Khaliyal stayed on scene. He was arrested on March 28th charged with Driving While License Revoked, No Liability Insurance, Failure to Register and Fictitious Registration.
On March 31st Khaliyal’s charges were upgraded to misdemeanor death by vehicle. As young as the suspect is, he has already been arrested 5 times. His father Gary Burney has been arrested 8 times on separate charges not connected to this case. If Khaliyal keeps up with this pace of arrests, he will surpass his father in arrest history.
