Richard Davis, 15, was killed on Sunday, March 26, 2023, at approximately 12:19 a.m. on South Tryon Street Charlotte, NC.
The preliminary investigation indicates the Kia Optima being driven by Richard was traveling at a high rate of speed on South Tryon Street when the vehicle lost control, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a GMC Acadia in the front driver’s side head on.
The Kia flipped upside down and sustained heavy front end damage. The GMC Acadia also had major front end damage.
Richard was pronounced deceased on scene by medics. The driver of the GMC Acadia was transported to Atrium Health Main Hospital with serious injuries.
The Kia that Richard was driving was reported stolen two days earlier. A TikTok challenge shows how easy it is to steal a Kia with a USB drive used as a fake key.
