On July 21, 2023 one person was killed and two people were seriously injured in a vehicular crash on Interstate 77 near the Sam Furr Road Exit in Huntersville, NC.
In the mid afternoon hours a Jeep was driving in the express lane of I-77 at a high rate of speed and lost control. The Jeep then ran into the median and crossed into the oncoming traffic lanes, while rolling over upside down.
The driver of the jeep died on scene. The debris hit other vehicles and injured 2 people.
The wreck shut down parts of I-77, and slowed traffic down for miles. Many drivers were mad and frustrated with the slow moving traffic flow. The I-77 express lanes near the wreck were closed completely.
