$5 MILLION IN METHAMPHETAMINE DISGUISED AS WATERMELONS

$5 million worth of meth was concealed within a shipment of watermelons on August 16, 2024 in Otay Mesa, CA.

The bust was made by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers. A man was driving a commercial tractor-trailer, seeking entry into the United States from Mexico.

The man was hauling a shipment manifested for watermelons.

Border Protection officers searched the watermelon shipment at the intensive dock for further examination. 

Upon careful inspection, officers uncovered 1,220 packages wrapped in paper, disguised as watermelons within the shipment. 

The contents of the packages were tested and identified as methamphetamine, with a total weight of 4,587 pounds. The estimated street value of the drugs exceeds $5 million dollars.

The meth was seized. The driver was interrogated by federal officials.
