$37 MILLION WORTH OF METHAMPHETAMINE HID IN TOMATO SHIPMENT

Date:

On December 19, 2020 federal agents at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Pharr, Texas struck a blow on narcotics smuggling organizations with the seizure of $37,000,000 worth of methamphetamine discovered in a commercial shipment of fresh tomatoes.

A tractor trailer truck hauling a commercial shipment of fresh tomatoes underwent a non-intrusive imaging portal as part of the secondary inspection. This allowed the officers to continue the examination and ultimately discover 657 packages weighing 1,853 pounds of methamphetamine concealed within the trailer’s floor.

The meth was valued at $37 million.

The Department of Homeland Security seized the narcotics and the tractor trailer. The case remains under investigation by Homeland Security Investigations.
