Makayla Neely killed a man, she pled guilty recently
In August 2026 Makayla Neely, 25, pled guilty to killing Yaregal Tegegne in Mint Hill, NC. Makayla’s mom is a doctor and in the Delta Sorority.
Makayla was involved in a car accident on May 3, 2025 that killed Tegegne. Makayla was driving fast and crashed into the vehicle that Tegegne was in.
The victim died on scene, he had 5 kids. Makayla was arrested charged with involuntary manslaughter.
In 2026 Makayla pled guilt to felony death by motor vehicle. Judge Osman sentenced her to 64-89 months in prison; that sentence was suspended pending her successful completion of 36 months of supervised probation.
As a condition of the probation, Makayla must serve a split sentence of 120 days in jail.
