CHARLOTTE COP ARRESTED FOLLOWING FRAUD INVESTIGATION

Date:

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged Police Officer Lawrence Guiler in a fraud case. Officer Guiler was arrested on September 23, 2021 in Charlotte, NC. Officer Guiler is a cop in Charlotte.

In addition to being a cop, there are other jobs that Officer Guiler holds off duty.

Last month, businesses where Officer Guiler was employed in a secondary employment capacity identified irregularities in the invoices for compensation that had been submitted by Officer Guiler.

The police internal affairs office was notified on the situation and launched both criminal and internal investigations.

Evidence and information gathered during the investigation revealed that Officer Guiler submitted invoices for payment to private businesses for dollar amounts in excess of what he was due on more than one occasion, cops say.

Further investigation into Officer Guiler’s secondary employment activity revealed multiple dates that he received compensation from a business for work he did not perform, according to arrest warrants.

The incidents allegedly occurred between March and August of 2021. Officer Guiler was arrested and charged with eight counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Officer Guiler had been a cop since 2013, he is now on unpaid administrative leave.
